'The Friends of St Columbanus,' a group of
pilgrims from France, recently visited Bangor Abbey, the site from which
St Columbanus, together with twelve companions set out for the continent
in 589 AD. The visit was part of the 'Friends' European
Pilgrimage.
The group have visited a number of key locations across Europe
associated with the life and journeys of Columbanus in the late 6th and
early 7th centuries, with the visit to Bangor the highlight of their
trip to Northern Ireland.
The group took part in a service of Holy Communion in Bangor Abbey
Church and presented the parish with a bronze plaque to commemorate
their visit (click on the logo above to visit their website).
