Bangor Abbey Players

The Bangor Abbey Players go back as far as 1962, when Canon Hamilton suggested that a Club be formed to fill a gap for those people in the church who didn't belong to any organisation.

A small number of people met (about 6) and a club was formed called 'The Twenties to Forties' (The T.T.F.).

The first meeting was held in September 1962.  Activities included organising Barn Dances/Tramps Ball etc. Play Readings and general social evenings.  The Men's Association used to put on revues in the Abbey Hall and they asked for the T.T.F. to help with singing and doing a few sketches.

By this time the membership of the T.T.F had grown.

The Play Readings led to them putting on a play, namely 'Murder at the Vicarage' by Agatha Christie, this being the first, followed by a number of comedies such as 'Sailor Beware' and 'Watch it Sailor'.

In the 1970's someone suggested that we should put on a pantomime.  The 1st panto was 'Aladdin' presented in 1978 and after that things just grew.

Every year we present a pantomime in January which is really well attended and in the Spring we put on a play which goes into the Churches Drama League, to be judged.  Sometimes we win a lot and other times we get very little!

We have a lot of talent and this sear we seem to be attracting a lot of young people which is very good news for the future.  You must be over 11 years of age to join.

Anyone interested in all aspects of Drama please contact Valerie Shaw through the Parish Office.
