Guides have fun!

Being a Guide is all about learning new skills, making your own decisions and having fun.  Guiding allows you to explore new possibilities and achieve personal goals while making friends and having adventures. It’s up to each Guide to work out which opportunities are relevant for her, whether it’s improving her football skills, party planning or learning about independent living.

They take part in indoor and outdoor activities that challenge them to do their best! Guides choose and plan most of their own activities, which can include theme evenings, trips and all sorts of fun!  Already 6th Bangor have been Carol Singing, taken part in a sponsored walk, had an activity day at Crawfordsburn and held a sleepover.  There are also Go For It’s to achieve and Badges to work towards which cover a wide array of topics (click the links below for more info):

Baden-Powell Challenge Award The highest individual achievement a Guide can gain.

Challenge badges Challenge badges reward Guides for their achievements over 12 months.

Go For It! Go For Its! are themed activity resources that girls use to plan their Patrol times.

Interest badges Interest badges allow a Guide to pursue and develop a personal interest independently.

As a Guide you are a member of Girlguiding Ulster which is a division of Girlguiding UK, the largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women in this country. It has about 600,000 members. There are similar organisations throughout the world and Girlguiding UK is a founding member of the world association that unites them.

Any girl aged ten or over can be a Guide. The oldest Guides are usually about 14/15 years old. Membership of Girlguiding UK is voluntary and is open to any girl or woman, regardless of faith, race, culture, nationality or any other circumstance, provided she is able to understand and willing to make the Promise.

Guides make this simple Promise that they share with members around the world.

I promise that I will do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
and
To keep the Guide Law.

Guides meet regularly, once a week during school terms for 1.5 hours. There are often other opportunities for Guides to take part in special activities and events throughout the year. Many Guide units go away on International Trips, to camp or on overnight sleepovers.  This year 6th Bangor will visit Battlefield, go Camping with Scouts & CGI where they will do activities such as canoeing, shooting, archery, climbing and much more.

To apply to join today, please contact Gillian through the Parish Office.
